The State Council of Educational Research and Training
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT, Kerala) is an autonomous body of the Department of General Education, Government of Kerala. It is established on the lines of NCERT at the national level and functions as an apex body in the academic matters of school education from Pre-primary to Higher secondary level. The multifarious functions of the institution range from policy formulation, curriculum development, preparation of teaching-learning materials, educational research, vocationalisation of education, to teacher education programmes in the state.
The National Education Policy has highlighted the need for strengthening the academic foundation of school education by establishing the NCERT at the national level and SCERTs at the state level. The SCERT was established in Kerala in 1994.
SCERT is committed to quality initiatives in school education by formulating and implementing curricula, preparing resource materials, and developing evaluation systems that ensure quality education in the schools of Kerala. The State Institute of Education (SIE), which earlier functioned as part of the Department of General Education, was re-constituted as SCERT, KERALA to enable a new vision for school education in the State.
